Research Toolbox
Background:
Problems that new technologies raise are most often abstract. Before jumping on finding solutions, it is crucial to explore different directions, define problems, and prototype to make knotty issues tangible.
Our research toolbox enables organizations in varied fields to understand the depth of different topics and drill down to the ultimate problem that they want to find a solution for. Providing both practical and theoretical guidance, we equip people with the right tools to see every aspect of the issue at hand and connect them with the experts in the field. Along the way, our explorative approach will lead us to uncharted paths and give rise to new ideas.

Define solution
Present
Phase 0: define theme and scope of research
Based on the most prominent and latest literature, and discussions in the media, we determine the research question and the limitations of the research. We define the desired outcome and start getting in contact with relevant partners.
Result: Research plan
Phase 1: Meet & Explore & Discuss
Quantitative research
The goal of quantitative research is to investigate the characteristics, behavior, and trends of a large group of people. We use questionnaires and surveys to gain insights and make substantiated decisions.
Partner: University of Utrecht
Result: Report
Meetups:
We organize several meetups with specialists in the respective field. People from different backgrounds who deal with the same problem by using different methods are able to present their work and approach, to broaden our horizon and stir up inspiring discussions.
Partners: Several institutions
Result: Articles & vlogs
Round table discussions
Roundtable discussions are a great opportunity to initiate conversations among professionals from a variety of disciplines. Keeping the focus on our topic of interest, we mediate fruitful dialogues to distill their knowledge into practical guides that we can use to define a well-rounded research problem.
Partners: several institutions
Result: Articles
Phase 2: Define solution
Design research
During design research, our primary goal is to increase our knowledge of your organization and its capabilities to contribute to our chosen topic. Through the design research, we understand the design challenge and definition of the problem space, map out opportunities within that space, and gain insights. Using the knowledge and directions we collected through meetups and roundtable discussions, we research how to turn these into applicable solutions.
Partners: Several schools & universities
Result: 3 to 5 prototypes
Phase 3: Present
We present all our findings and recommendations on how to take our prototypes a step further. If possible, we submit the project to relevant events in order to exhibit prototypes and gain more visibility. Ultimately, we consolidate the research and prototypes in a final report.
Result: Presentation and final report
