ART MACHINES 0.2 - Workshop: ReCoding Joost Rekveld

  • Sensor Lab 4 Plompetorengracht Utrecht, UT, 3512 CC Netherlands (map)

CCU calls artists, coders and designers to participate in ReCoding Joost Rekveld, a two-day workshop with the master of Generative art at Sensor Lab. Participants will create prototypes for new works, inspired on one of Joost’s early films.

For years now, Joost has been motivated by the question of what we can learn from a dialogue with machines. In his work, he explores the sensory consequences of systems of his own design, often inspired by forgotten corners in the history of science and technology.

The two-day workshop follows the method of ReCoding. This means that we’ll try to deconstruct the chaotic system that lays underneath one of Joost’s early films. We’ll use this process as a means to get inspired, understand the craft of working with chaotic systems, and create prototypes for new works.

The trajectory consists of several phases. The first phase is inspiration and hands-on prototyping. The reinterpretations that are made by the participants will be presented in a video installation, which will be on display at Uitfeest of Culturele Zondag in September.
